Ryan Floyd, CFA
Ryan founded Barca Capital in 2008 with a flexible mandate to allocate capital in global markets with a preference towards long-term perspectives. Growing up in suburban Maryland, he developed an early passion for global and civic issues while on the high school debate team, routing many arguments around international topics when others stayed on domestic issues. He then studied history and also the Western and Asian classics in college and then embarked on an adventure living in Mumbai. Ryan worked for Mahindra and Mahindra, an industrial holding company, in Worli, Mumbai and commuted daily to Ghatkopar (West) by bus. He traveled extensively across India, helping to build a fresh pomegranate, mango, and grape export business.
He returned to the United States to work for Auerbach Grayson Co., a global institutional brokerage firm, and eventually rose to the level of Vice President of Emerging Markets. He traveled frequently to Africa and Asia to identify unusual investment opportunities. While in this position, he saw firsthand how many investors were limited to investing outside of their home markets: prime brokers and custodians lacking local accounts, overly bureaucratic corporate structures, and misaligned liquidity terms. These limitations persist today and create opportunities for those willing to navigate them.
While focusing the Firm internationally, he is passionate about the importance of local engagement, wherever one lives. He enjoys cooking spicy stews, competing in sports, reading, and playing (mediocre) Go/Wei Qi/Baduk. He likes obscure history books and unusual datasets.
He holds a B.A. in History from Yale University and is a CFA® Charterholder.
